How to merge PDFs without uploading them

Four steps, and the same ones work for every other tool.

  1. Open PDF Kit and pick Merge.

    Every tool is one tap from the start screen.

  2. Choose your PDFs.

    They open in your browser, from your files, iCloud Drive or a folder. Nothing is sent anywhere.

  3. Put them in order.

    Move files up and down. Type page ranges like 1-3, 5 to take only some pages.

  4. Merge, then keep going.

    Save the new file, or hand it straight to Page numbers, Sign or Add a password.

Is it safe to upload PDFs to free online tools?

The well-known sites say how long they keep your files, and delete them after that. The bigger risk is the lookalikes: in March 2025 the FBI warned that criminals were using fake free file converter sites to install malware. PDF Kit avoids the question, because nothing leaves your device.

Can I remove a password from a PDF?

Only if you know it. PDF Kit opens the file with the password and saves a copy that opens without one. It can’t unlock a PDF whose password you don’t have, and it shouldn’t.

Is a drawn signature legally binding?

Often, but it depends on the document and where you are. In the US, the ESIGN Act lets a typed or drawn name count as an electronic signature. What a picture of a signature can’t do is prove who signed, or that the file hasn’t changed since. That takes a certificate-based digital signature, which PDF Kit doesn’t make, and says so.

Can PDF Kit make a PDF smaller?

Scans, yes. Shrink scans resizes the photos inside a PDF, which is where the size is, and shows the new size before you save. A PDF that’s mostly text is already small, so it saves little, and PDF Kit says so before you start.

Can I merge PDFs without uploading them?

Yes. The free PDF merger and PDF Kit merge in your browser, on your device, and so does Preview on a Mac. Most free merge websites upload your files to their servers first.

Is there an offline alternative to iLovePDF?

Yes. PDF Kit works offline once it has been opened, in any modern browser. iLovePDF’s own offline desktop tools need Premium, and on Windows, PDF24 Creator is free and works offline.

Is PDF Kit free?
Merging and splitting, yes: the free PDF merger joins up to 3 PDFs, and the free PDF splitter cuts one into parts, with no account. All fourteen tools, with no file limit, come with implements, $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year for every tool, with no ads and no daily limit. The first 100 members get their first 3 months free.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Every file is opened and rewritten by your own browser. Nothing is sent to a server, so it works with no connection too.
Which tools does it have?
Merge, Images to PDF, Organize pages, Split, Extract pages, Remove pages, Rotate, Page numbers, Watermark, Sign, Add a password, Remove a password, Edit details and Shrink scans.
Is there a limit on file size or pages?
No daily limit and no page limit. Very large files depend on your device’s memory, so a computer handles bigger ones than a phone.
Can it remove a password I don’t know?
No. You need the password to open the file. PDF Kit then saves a copy that opens without it.
How safe is Add a password?
It encrypts the file with AES-256, so it won’t open without the password. Use three or more unrelated words: PDF Kit tells you when a password is easy to guess, and nobody, including us, can get it back for you.
Is the signature legally binding?
It’s a picture of your signature, which counts as an electronic signature for many everyday documents in the US. It isn’t a certificate-based digital signature, the kind that proves who signed and that nothing changed afterwards.
Can it make a PDF smaller?
Scans, yes: Shrink scans resizes the photos inside. PDFs that are mostly text are already small, and PDF Kit says so before you start.
Does it work with Doc Scanner?
Yes. After a scan, tap Edit in PDF Kit and the scan opens there, ready to sign, number, merge or lock.
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes, in Safari, or add it to your Home Screen to use it offline. Choose files from the Files app, including iCloud Drive.
