How to make a survey or a form people can answer without signing up

Four steps. On the demo, send an answer and watch the CSV grow.

  1. Make a form.

    Give it a name, or start from an RSVP, feedback, a sign-up sheet or an order form.

  2. Add your questions.

    Pick a kind for each: short or long text, choose one or any, a number, an email address or a date. Mark the ones that can be skipped.

  3. Share the link.

    Paste it into a chat, an email or a poster. People answer on any phone or computer, with no account.

  4. Read the answers.

    Each one lands in the table as it comes in. Download a CSV whenever you like, and close the form when you’re done.

Three questions worth a straight answer.

Each one is a small thing that decides whether a form feels safe and easy to answer.

What if someone types a formula into a form?

Answers come from strangers, and a spreadsheet runs any cell that starts with =, +, - or @. In the CSV, Forms puts an apostrophe in front of those, so they open as plain text and nothing runs.

Why mark the optional questions, not the needed ones?

Most questions on most forms need an answer, so Forms labels the few that don’t. It’s plainer than an asterisk, and it’s what the GOV.UK Design System recommends.

Do people need a Google account to answer a form?

  • No account
  • No app
  • Any browser

Not on Forms. On Google Forms, usually not, but some settings ask for one: a file upload question, or limiting each person to one answer. Forms never asks the people answering to sign in.

What’s the catch with free form builders?

Usually a cap. Typeform’s free plan takes 10 answers a month across all your forms, SurveyMonkey’s shows a limited number per survey, and Jotform’s free plan disables your forms after 100 a month. Google Forms states no cap, and Tally allows unlimited answers within fair use.

Is there a limit on answers?

Each form takes up to 50,000 answers. There’s no cap per month and no charge per answer, so a busy week costs the same as a quiet one.

Is Forms free?
No. It comes with implements, $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year for every tool, with no ads. The first 100 members get their first 3 months free. If you only need a form now and then, Google Forms is free.
Do people need an account to answer?
No. They open the link and answer, on any phone or computer. No account and no app.
How many answers can a form take?
Up to 50,000 per form. There’s no cap per month and no charge per answer.
What kinds of questions can I ask?
Seven: short text, long text, choose one, choose any, a number, an email address and a date. Each can have a hint, and each can be needed or optional.
Can I download the answers?
Yes, as a CSV that opens in Excel, Numbers and Google Sheets. Answers that start with =, +, - or @ are kept as text, so a spreadsheet won’t run them; a Number question’s answers stay numbers you can add up.
Can I stop taking answers?
Yes. Turn off Taking answers and the link shows a closed notice instead of the form. Turn it back on whenever you like.
What does New link do?
It makes a fresh link and stops the old one at once. Answers already given are kept.
Can I see who answered?
Only what people tell you. If you need names or email addresses, ask for them in the form.
Are answers checked?
Yes, twice: on the page, so a missed question shows before sending, and again on the server.
Does it work offline?
No. Forms needs a connection to send and collect answers. You can still add it to your home screen for one-tap access.
