Typeform’s free plan stops at ten responses a month.

Typeform is still free, but the free plan takes 10 responses a month in total, across every form on your account, and tests sent through your published form count. At 10 your forms go private until the next month begins or you upgrade, and the cheapest upgrade, Basic, is $39 a month, or $28 a month billed yearly.

In short

Updated

Typeform’s free plan lets you make as many forms as you like, but together they take 10 responses a month. Deleting responses gives none back, and tests through the published form count. When the 10 are used, your forms go private and show as closed until the month turns or you upgrade. File uploads and removing “Powered by Typeform” are paid. Tally and Microsoft Forms allow far more for free, and Google’s help pages state no limit for Google Forms.

What do Typeform’s paid plans cost?

Basic is $39 a month, or $28 a month billed yearly, for 100 responses a month and one user. Plus is $79 a month, or $56 a month billed yearly, for 1,000 responses a month, 3 users and no Typeform branding. Business is $129 a month, or $91 a month billed yearly, for 10,000 responses a month and 5 users.

What’s the best free Typeform alternative?

For most forms, Tally: unlimited forms and responses on its free plan, within fair use, with file uploads. Google Forms and Microsoft Forms come with an account you may already have.

The free plan

What does Typeform’s free plan include?

Unlimited forms, 10 responses a month and one user. All you need to start is an email address, and results download as a spreadsheet.

Typeform’s help center lists what’s paid: file uploads, removing its branding, redirects, reCAPTCHA, preventing duplicate responses, and closing a form automatically. Free and Basic forms show “Powered by Typeform” and, after someone submits, a “Create a typeform” button. Hiding both needs Plus.

One of Typeform’s template guides calls 10 questions “the limit for Free account holders”, and “Unlimited questions” is a paid feature. Logic is less clear: the Free plan article includes it, the plan chooser puts it under Basic, and Typeform says it is “experimenting now” with its plans. Check your own account before you build around it.

The limit

What happens when you hit the response limit?

Typeform counts responses across all your forms, so three forms on Free share the same 10. The count resets each month, even on yearly plans, and unused responses don’t carry over.

Typeform warns you by email and in the app at 90% and 100%. At 100%, your forms go into Private mode until the next month begins or you upgrade. Typeform’s FAQ says this may be why a typeform shows as closed when you didn’t close it.

Test submissions through a published form count, and Typeform can’t reset the limit by hand if tests used it up. Deleting responses gives none back either.

Free alternatives

Free alternatives to Typeform

  • Tally “gives you unlimited forms and submissions, completely free”, within fair use; its policy calls a steady 50,000 a month extensive, and past fair use it offers a paid custom plan. Publishing needs an account. Free forms take file uploads up to 10 MB a file. Pro, $29 a month or $24 a month paid yearly, removes Tally branding and that cap.
  • Google Forms works with a Google account and saves each form in your Drive. Google’s help pages state no response limit. People answering must sign in to Google if the form takes files or allows one response per person.
  • Microsoft Forms works with a Microsoft account. A free personal account takes up to 200 responses a form; for more, export them to Excel and clear them. With “Anyone can respond”, nobody signs in, but such forms can’t take files: uploads need a work or school account.
  • Jotform’s free Starter plan allows 5 active forms and 100 submissions a month across the account, with Jotform branding. Past a monthly limit it disables your forms on a date it emails you, showing “Form over quota”.

If the only question is which date suits everyone, a date poll is simpler: the guide to Doodle alternatives compares free ones.

One more option

Where Forms fits

Forms is ours, and it isn’t free: it comes with implements, $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year for every tool, with no ads. You can keep up to 100 forms, and each takes up to 50,000 answers in total, with no monthly count; each answer you delete frees a place. People answer from a link with no account, and answers download as a CSV. Each form’s page ends with a small “Made with Forms” line, which you can turn off.

It has 7 kinds of question and up to 50 questions a form, but no logic and no file uploads, so for branching or collecting files Tally or a paid Typeform plan does more. If your subscription ends, forms stop taking answers, and you can still read and export what came in. If you only need a form now and then, Tally’s free plan or Google Forms costs nothing.

Questions

Questions people ask.

Short answers, in plain words. Something missing? Ask Support and we’ll add it here.

Is Typeform free?
Yes, with a limit: unlimited forms, but 10 responses a month across all of them. Basic, at $39 a month or $28 a month billed yearly, takes 100 responses a month.
How many questions can a free typeform have?
Ten, going by a Typeform template guide that calls 10 questions “the limit for Free account holders”. Its Free plan article gives no number, but a free form must drop “Unlimited questions” before it can be published.
Why does my typeform say it’s closed?
If you didn’t close it, the account may have reached its response limit for the month. Forms come back when the month turns or you upgrade.
Do my test responses count?
Yes, if sent through the published form, and deleting them adds none back. To try a form without using any, open it in the Create panel and press Preview.
